There are two kinds of tailoring.

Almost everyone calls their journeys tailor-made these days. Usually that means a route is already waiting, and you may add a night, swap a hotel or drop an excursion. The starting point is still the offer, and you adjust to it.

Here the journey does not exist yet when the conversation begins. There is a traveller with a longing, and there is a world of possibilities. What goes in between is only drawn once we know what you are looking for, how you travel and what you would rather avoid.

Two people who both ask for three weeks in Namibia end up with two different journeys. Not to make things complicated, but because they are two different people.

How to recognise it

Five things that set real tailor-made travel apart.

It starts with questions. Not with a proposal. What do you long for, what do you want to experience, how do you like to travel, and what can happily be left out. Only then does the drawing begin.

It is for sale nowhere else. There is no second copy of it. Your journey appears in no catalogue, not even ours, because we do not have one.

It is drawn by people who live there. We know you. Our partners on the ground know their country. We lay those two kinds of knowledge side by side, and your journey comes out of that.

It can also be a no. If your season does not suit the destination, or your budget does not match what you have in mind, we say so before we start. Then we look together at what does work.

It stays yours. Everything we record is what you told us. If your plans change along the way, the journey changes with them, not the other way round.

How it goes

From first conversation to departure.

First the conversation, and it costs you nothing. By telephone or by video, whichever suits you. We take the time to understand what you are looking for: which countries come into question, what kind of stay suits you, who you travel with and when, and what budget per person feels realistic. Everything we discuss, we write down.

Then we check whether it can be done. Together with our people in the country we test your wishes against reality. If the answer is no, you hear it before anything is drawn.

If it is feasible, the design begins. Not in general, but for exactly this journey, with exactly these agreements. What you receive is a proposal made for you alone, with the reasons why it looks the way it does.

And then we stay with it. Before you leave, while you travel and when you come home you have the same point of contact. No queue, no file number passed from desk to desk.

Why it works

Tailoring stands or falls with who does the drawing.

A tailor-made journey is only as good as the knowledge inside it. That is why in every country we work with people who live there: they know which guide really has something to say, which stay is worth its photograph, and why a route that looks sensible on the map is not sensible on the ground.

We bring your side: what you want to experience, how you want to travel, what made your last journey work or not. The partner on the ground brings their country. We watch over the whole, and you have a single point of contact.

That is the difference between a journey made for you and a journey you had to assemble yourself.

Common questions about tailor-made travel

What exactly is tailor-made travel?

A journey designed for you rather than selected for you. There is no existing programme that we file down. We start from what you want to experience and build the journey around that, together with our partner in the country itself.

How is it different from a tour from a brochure?

A brochure journey exists before you call. The route, the hotels and the daily rhythm are fixed, and the changes you may make are limited to what the system allows. With tailor-made travel nothing is fixed at the start except your story.

Who is this for?

For anyone who knows they want to experience something without needing to know what it looks like. For couples, families, friends and solo travellers. For a first big journey just as much as for a twentieth. What you do need is the willingness to have a conversation before anything is drawn.

How long before I have a proposal?

After the conversation comes a feasibility check with our people on the ground. Then the design begins. How long that takes depends on the destination and the season, and we tell you during the conversation itself. What we do not do is send a proposal within the hour, because then it would not have been made for you.

Can it be a country that is not on this site?

Often yes. The destinations on this site are the countries we have something of our own to say about, not the limit of what we can do. Just ask.

What does tailor-made travel cost?

There is no figure here, and that is not secrecy. A price belongs to a journey, and your journey does not exist yet. What drives the price can be explained: the season, how long you go, the kind of stay, how you move around and how many of you travel. During the conversation we check whether your budget and your wishes meet, before anything is drawn.
