Tailor-made South America tours

From Patagonia to the Pantanal, and from Machu Picchu to the Atacama. The countries are so large that you fly between regions, and a tour starts with choosing.

Combining

Which regions and countries go together

Buenos Aires and the Patagonian mountains are as far apart as Brussels and Morocco, and you usually fly between the regions of Argentina. Four regions mean four flights and four half-days of travel. In Brazil too, you fly between the regions.

The Iguaçu Falls lie on the border between Brazil and Argentina, and the Pantanal borders Bolivia. Colonia del Sacramento, in Uruguay, lies across the Río de la Plata, opposite Buenos Aires. Uruguay itself is small, with Montevideo, Colonia, the coast of Rocha and the estancias inland.

Peru and Chile lie on the western side of the Andes. In Peru, altitude sets the order of the trip: Lima is by the sea, Cusco at 3,400 metres and Lake Titicaca at 3,810 metres. Chile is 4,270 kilometres long, from the Atacama in the north to the glaciers of Patagonia in the south, and there too you fly between the regions.

Questions about a tour of South America

How many days do you need for a tour of South America?

For Argentina, allow two weeks for two regions, and three weeks if you want to see more. For Brazil, two to three weeks for two or three regions. For Uruguay, ten days to two weeks, for Peru twelve to sixteen days and for Chile two to three weeks. If you combine two countries, add the time together.

Can you combine Argentina and Uruguay?

Yes. Colonia del Sacramento lies across the Río de la Plata, opposite Buenos Aires. How much time you need for Uruguay depends on whether you only want to see Colonia or also Montevideo, the coast and the interior.

What is the travel advice for South America?

Travel advice applies per country, not per continent, and within one country it can differ by region. You will find it with the Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, at diplomatie.belgium.be. We follow it for every country on your route, before you leave and during your trip, and discuss with you what it means for your journey.
